Dual Mode Institutions

How is distance education managed in dual-mode institutions?

In institutions that provide conventional and distance education simultaneously, the distance education is usually managed by a special unit. This unit normally has administrative staff whose sole responsibility is distance education. It may also have dedicated faculty, though most units call on the parent body's faculty to provide most of the teaching. The management of the distance education division is accountable to higher authority, unlike in the single-mode institution, where there is no higher authority. Funding and other management decisions are made with the interests of the parent body in mind as well as those of the distance teaching program.
