Study guides and course guides

A printed course guide or study guide is an essential part of any distanceeducation course, even one in which nearly all the teaching is conducted throughnonprint technologies such as TV or conferencing. A guide introduces the course, specifies the objectives, and provides information and guidance on study skillsand assessment (such as homework assignments and examinations). It also mayinclude preparatory and follow-up reading for TV broadcasts or audiocassettes, and guidance notes and follow-up activities related to material in a textbook orcourse reader. It would also include contacts, technical information, lists ofreferences and resources, and details about the course designers, instructors, and tutors and, in some cases, about the other students.
