Most school and college textbooks are written for classroom use and thus maynot be appropriate for a distance education course. The exceptions are textbookswritten in a personal style that include self-assessment questions, and reviewtests or questions at the end of each main section or chapter. For the distancelearner, many standard textbooks would need to be complemented by a study guideor course guide with commentary and notes. Some on-line courses based on a"wrap-around" model use standard textbooks or course readers (editedcompilations of articles) as a basic resource, giving on-line guidance on whichsections, chapters, or articles to read for later discussion through theconferencing system.
