Strategy
|
|
The Bank's work in education is anchored in a Bank-wide Education Sector
Strategy and regional education strategies, revised periodically to ensure
that assistance is well aligned with evolving country needs and global
circumstances. An Education Sector Strategy was last prepared in 1999 and
the vision set out therein, of education that supports poverty reduction and
economic growth, remains fully relevant. At the same time, our work in
education has continued to be informed by papers prepared, beginning fall
2001, for the Bank's Development Committee -- our governing organization --
and other strategic and analytical work in the areas of universal primary
education (financing challenges), HIV/AIDS and education, tertiary
education, science and technology, lifelong learning, education and
post-conflict reconstruction, and secondary education (forthcoming). An
Education Sector Strategy Update, aimed at helping staff more effectively
meet client needs, is being prepared and expected to be completed by the end
of fiscal year 2005. |
