There are various
ways to retrieve education information from the World Bank
website. This guide is intended to assist you in this search.
The World
Bank Education Site provides links to several education
resources, such as education-specific publications, projects,
statistics, sector strategy reports, regional sites and other
resources. The pick list on the left navigation bar of the Education
site links to thematic grouped under the areas of
EFA (Education For All) and EKE (Education for the Knowledge
Economy).
The below box provides tips on
accessing education information on the topics listed.

Education information on countries and regions, please
visit the Education Countries and
Regions site. This site provides access to a wealth of
education information on specific regions and countries of the
world.
If you are interested in general information on activities in
specific Countries or Regions, you can access the World Bank
Countries & Regions site. This site provides you links
to specific regional and country pages.

Data
& Statistics
|

For Education specific statistics, visit the Education
Data and Statistics site. You will notice that EdStats,
a comprehensive database of education statistics, provides
statistics from various sources. By using its Data
Query System, you wil be able to run queries for your
specific data needs.
For information and access to World Bank data and statistics,
please visit World
Bank Data and Statistics site. This site allows you to access
to all the main data sources at the World Bank including the
World Development Indicators, the Millenium Development Goals.
Further, through the World
Bank Data Query System which provides free access to a 5-year, 54-indicators segment of the World Development
Indicators database, you can create your own data tables.

Evaluation

For information on the evaluation reports of World Bank
education projects and activities, you can access Education
Publications from the Operations
and Evaluations site.
For overall evaluation of World Bank activites, access the
website for the Operations
and Evaluations Department (OED), OED is an independent unit
within the World Bank, that assesses what works, and what does
not; how a borrower plans to run and maintain a project; and the
lasting contribution of the Bank to a country's overall
development. The goals of evaluation are to learn from
experience, to provide an objective basis for assessing the
results of the Bank's work, and to provide accountability in the
achievement of its objectives. It also improves Bank work by
identifying and disseminatign the lessons learned from
experience and by framing recommendations drawn from evaluation
findings.

The World Bank Institute (WBI)
is the learning arm of the World Bank. WBI reinforces the Bank's anti-poverty efforts in the developing world by providing access to the Bank's worldwide expertise and experience. WBI's services include: Learning programs, Policy consultations, Knowledge networks and Scholarship programs.
For policy makers interested in training opportunities in education the WBI Education Learning Program
offers an array of courses. Use the Calendar of Events
for information on current training programs offered by WBI.
For students and teachers interested in learning materials, sample lesson plans on sustainable development, and education games.

This page provides you with direct
access to World Bank Project Information. Through the database
you may obtain Project Information Document and/or Project
Appraisal Document. You may find it useful to conduct an
Advanced Search of this database and select education projects
by country, sector, lending instrument and other
categories. Also, you may use the Keyword field and
include a short description of topic of interest. Alternatively, the navigation links on the left side of the
page provide access to projects by sector and
theme.
