Policy Challenges for the Financial Sector in the Context of Globalization

The World Bank, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System jointly developed this international Seminar on Policy Challenges for the Financial Sector in early 2001 to provide a forum for Deputy Governors of Central Banks and Heads of Banking Supervisory Authorities in developing countries to discuss the current challenges to the financial sector policy makers in developing sound financial systems and combating financial crises in a global environment. Recent experiences at the global and national level will be examined from a comparative perspective by a selected group of speakers from different countries and international agencies, as well as senior World Bank, IMF, and Federal Reserve specialists and officials. Special emphasis will be given to the contribution from national and regional experts and participants.

This first-time international seminar is envisaged to become an annual gathering of deputy governors and board members of central banks, as well as heads of banking supervision agencies to discuss the pressing issues of the day and share their experiences.
