This event will bring together a wide array of stakeholders to discuss opportunities and future innovations in the remittances industry. Policymakers, researchers and remittance industry analysts and competitors will share experiences from all over the world on successful ways to strengthen formal sector remittance channels and create incentives for customers to shift from informal to formal systems.

APEC、APECチリ財務省会議、アジア開発銀行、世界銀行パートナーシップのもと、日本政府によるスポンサー等の協力を得て、「代替送金システム(Alternative Remittance System, ARS)に対する闘いに関するAPECイニシアティブ」の一環として、2004年6月3日(木)、6月4日(金)に公開シンポジウム”Shaping the Remittances Market by Shifting to Formal Systems”がアジア開発銀行研究所(東京都千代田区)において開催されます。このシンポジウムは、広範囲なステークホルダーと共に海外送金関連業務へのビジネス機会と将来のイノベーション等について議論し、その有効性について話し合います。世界各国の政府関係者、学術研究者、送金業務に精通した専門家等を招き、いかに公式な送金手段を強化し、非公式な送金システムから、公式な送金システムに移行する事が出来るかについて意見交換を行う予定です。
