Culture and Corruption: Lessons from Project GLOBE

Date: Monday, January 29, 2007
Time:
12:00 pm - 2:00 pm
Location: MC 4-100
Speaker: Mansour Javidan, Ph.D., Thunderbird, the Garvin School of International Management

This seminar will examine the linkage between culture and corruption, focusing on how culture is related to corruption. The speaker will draw from the findings from the GLOBE project to examine the empirical evidence on the relationship between culture and corruption. GLOBE (Global Leadership and Organizational Behavior Effectiveness) is a long term multi-phase research program funded by the U.S. National Science Foundation, and has collected data from over 17000 managers in 62 cultures. The speaker will also explore the policy implications of these findings and provides some thoughts on how the vicious cycle can be interrupted.
